Start with the published Free limits
Per systeme.io’s pricing FAQ (page note: last updated April 2026):
- 2,000 contacts
- 3 sales funnels
- 1 blog
- 1 course
- 1 affiliate program
- 1 custom domain
- Unlimited emails and unlimited file storage (as stated)
- No credit card required; Free does not expire while you stay inside limits
- 0% platform transaction fees on checkouts (processor fees still apply)
Paid ladder (same FAQ): Startup $17/mo, Webinar $47/mo, Unlimited $97/mo. Annual billing discounts appear on offer cards (~2 months free; Startup annual marketed near $14/mo effective).

Some checkout UIs show different monthly sticker prices (e.g., Startup shown as $27 on a monthly toggle in third-party screenshots). Always read the monthly vs annual toggle on the official pricing page the day you pay.
The only good reasons to leave Free
1) Contact ceiling
When your list approaches 2,000 reachable contacts, plan the Startup upgrade before you are forced into archived-contact weirdness. systeme.io states that if you cancel paid and exceed Free limits, contacts above the Free cap are archived (not deleted) until you re-subscribe.
2) Funnel count
Three funnels is enough for: lead magnet, core offer, and one partner or seasonal path. A fourth live experiment means Startup — or archive an old funnel deliberately.
3) Course count
One course on Free covers a single productized onboarding or mini-cohort. A second public course is an upgrade trigger, not a redesign project inside the same course shell.
4) Automated webinars
Webinar features sit on Webinar and Unlimited per FAQ. Do not buy webinars because competitors use them. Buy them when you have a recorded presentation, registration page, and deadline sequence written.
5) Sub-accounts / client separation
Unlimited marketing emphasizes sub-accounts and migration help. If you are running multiple brands or client accounts, model Unlimited ($97/mo) against GoHighLevel’s agency plans plus usage. Different animals.
Bad reasons to upgrade
- “I want the badge of a paid plan.”
- “Maybe paid converts better” with no funnel change.
- Buying Webinar before you have a script.
- Matching a guru’s screenshot of Unlimited while you have 180 contacts.
Paid software does not create traffic. Distribution does.
Minute-by-minute audit before you pay
Spend 20 minutes:
- Export contacts — how many are real humans who opted in?
- Count live funnels — archive junk.
- List automations you actually run weekly.
- Check domain auth (SPF/DKIM) — deliverability problems are not solved by Unlimited.
- Screenshot pricing with the annual/monthly toggle visible.
- Write the trigger in one line: “Upgrading because contacts = 1,920 and growing 80/mo.”
If you cannot write that line, stay Free.
Startup ($17/mo) — what changes in practice
FAQ positioning: 5,000 contacts, more funnels/courses than Free, still unlimited email sends. For most operators reading AutomataDesk, Startup is the first paid stop — not Unlimited.
Run Startup for 60 days with one goal: did the extra funnel or course produce revenue that exceeds $17 (or ~$14 annualized)? If not, the constraint was not the plan.

Webinar ($47/mo) and Unlimited ($97/mo)
Webinar: justified when evergreen webinar automation is part of the sales path and you can measure registration→show→purchase.
Unlimited: justified for contact volume, sub-accounts, or when you want the migration perk systeme.io advertises on higher tiers. Confirm what “free migration” includes on the current sales page before you rely on it.
Annual Unlimited is marketed on the affiliate page around $80/mo effective ($970/yr) with ~$194 annual savings vs monthly — re-check numbers at checkout.

Competitive pressure check
Before you leave systeme.io entirely:
| Need | Stay / upgrade systeme.io | Consider leaving |
|---|---|---|
| More contacts / funnels | Startup → Unlimited | — |
| Heavier upsell / CF-style tooling | Sometimes stay | ClickFunnels Launch $97/mo |
| Polished course campus | Maybe | Kajabi (Basic $179/mo · Growth $249/mo · Pro $499/mo — checked 2026-09-11 at https://kajabi.com/pricing) |
| SMS + agency sub-accounts | Rarely | GoHighLevel $97+ plus usage |
Pairing with a product storefront
Marketing site ≠ product site. For Desk Teams, keep public CTA on https://deskteams.ai (packs $149/$199; Monthly Desk matches). Use systeme.io for list and funnel mechanics when useful.
Upgrade decision card
Stay Free if: contacts < ~1,800, ≤3 funnels, 1 course, and checkouts work.
Buy Startup if: you can name the funnel/course/contact limit you hit.
Buy Webinar if: evergreen webinar is a measured sales asset.
Buy Unlimited if: sub-accounts or contact scale require it.
Leave systeme.io if: SMS/CRM depth or course polish is the actual bottleneck.

Worked example: Free → Startup without drama
Maria runs a two-offer shop: a $49 checklist and a $199 workshop replay. She is on systeme.io Free with 1,100 contacts and two funnels. In month four she wants a partner co-brand funnel and a second course for VIP buyers. That is funnel #3 already used for seasonal promo — the partner path would be #4, and the VIP course would be course #2.
Decision: Startup at the published $17/mo (or annual equivalent). Not Webinar. She has no webinar script.
First week on Startup: archive the dead seasonal funnel, launch partner funnel, upload VIP course outline, keep email sequences tagged. Measure partner-attributed orders for 30 days. If partner revenue < $17, kill the partner funnel — do not “make up for it” by buying Unlimited.
Worked example: skipping to Unlimited for the wrong reason
An operator with 400 contacts buys Unlimited because a YouTube review showed sub-accounts. They never invite a client. They now pay $97/mo for headroom they do not use. Better path: stay Free/Startup until a second brand or client account is real.
Rule: pay for the limit you hit last week, not the fantasy org chart.
Annual vs monthly: cash math
Affiliate offer cards (April 2026 terms on page) market roughly two months free on annual:
| Plan | Monthly sticker (FAQ) | Annual effective (affiliate cards) |
|---|---|---|
| Startup | $17/mo | ~$14/mo ($170/yr class) |
| Webinar | $47/mo | ~$39/mo |
| Unlimited | $97/mo | ~$80/mo ($970/yr class) |
If cash is tight and the upgrade trigger is soft, monthly billing keeps exit easy. If the trigger is hard (contacts) and you will stay ≥10 months, annual usually wins — screenshot the toggle.

Downgrade and cancel behavior (operators care)
systeme.io’s FAQ states you can change plans anytime; on cancel, data can remain on Free if contacts fit; excess contacts archive rather than delete. That is friendlier than hard lockouts — still export CSV monthly so you are not dependent on any vendor’s mercy.
